Air preparation starts with the downstream equipment’s requirements. A filter, regulator and lubricator perform different jobs. A combined unit is not automatically the right arrangement for every circuit. Define the functions before comparing size and interfaces.
Choose the required functions
State the required filtration and pressure regulation. Record the equipment’s particle, moisture and lubrication requirements rather than assuming one general filter specification serves the whole machine.
Include an air-line lubricator only when downstream equipment calls for it. Check that the components and process are suitable for oil mist. An FRL category does not mean a lubricator belongs in every installation.
Check the actual combination
The selected A-series references distinguish two-unit combinations using a filter-regulator and lubricator from three-unit combinations with separate filter, regulator and lubricator. Confirm the full configuration, connection order and available space.
For a replacement, retain the full code. Compare port threads and centres, brackets, gauge position, bowl arrangement and clearance. A similar series name does not prove that the new assembly fits the existing mounting.
Describe pressure and flow demand
Give the available inlet conditions, required regulated pressure and downstream flow demand. Include the operating cycle and periods when several devices work together. Review the selected size’s flow information and pressure conditions rather than choosing by nominal port size alone.
Working and proof pressure are separate values. Operate within the working range and check every component in the assembly. Proof pressure does not authorize a higher normal setting or surge allowance.
Provide service access
Record mounting orientation, pressure-adjustment and gauge access, and space for the bowl and drain. State drain preference and environmental exposure. Confirm the current selected-model drawing before approving a replacement layout.
What to include
- Filtration, regulation and any equipment-specified lubrication.
- Inlet conditions, regulated pressure, flow demand and duty.
- Port/thread, assembly order, gauge and drain preference.
- Mounting, bowl clearance, full code and documentation needed.
Compare the air-preparation range with the new-machine checklist. For an existing unit, use the replacement checklist with photographs and measurements.
